Artistic Impressions Pertaining to Two Squirrels in a Rucksack

So imagine these two guys...
...or these two guys...

...in here...

Better yet, a real squirrel bag (could one say rucksack?) in which one could potentially locate two squirrels.

And last but not least... the Fendi Spy Velvet Squirrel Bag in Black w/Braided Handles.

Sweeping the Nation

I'm happy to report that "Two Squirrels in a Rucksack" is sweeping the nation. It is hot in Ottawa of course, and Winnipeg. It has now made its way to Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. Possible sightings for Halifax, Edmonton and Hamilton too. Who knows where it will strike next? Word has it that one key 2SIAR disciple has even spread the gospel to Florida.

Two Squirrels in a Rucksack

If you haven't heard the above saying yet, don't worry... you will. It is the hottest sensation in Canada right now from the prairies to the capital. The beauty of the phrase is in its versatility. It can mean so many things.

For example...

"The series between Ottawa and New Jersey will be a rough one. When they get together, it's like two squirrels in a rucksack."

"I'm not sure where he got that information. He probably just put two squirrels in a rucksack to come up with that number."

"We got very lost driving around town. We were as bewildered as two squirrels in a rucksack."

"That's such an easy job, I hear they just hired two squirrels in a rucksack to do it."

And some real world examples...

"Can you please change the music you're playing? That sounds like two squirrels in a rucksack!" (JW)

"When the boss finds out who was responsible, they are going to feel like two squirrels in a rucksack." (PM)

"I have to set reminders on Friday for Monday morning. I forget everything after I spend the weekend partying like two squirrels in a rucksack." (JD)

Please use the phrase. Please spread the phrase. Please expand on its uses. Please e-mail me with the best examples you've heard.

And above all, please remember... you heard it here first.

Some sad news and some happy news.

The sad news is that faithful blog reader and trusty dog Cookie passed away last week. Cookie's pal Lucky recently wrote to me about Cookie, claiming Cookie was about 11 or 12 years old and the two of them got into no end of trouble. Personally, I'm pretty sure Lucky was the instigator most times. Lucky joked about letting Cookie think she was in charge around the house, but I could tell that Lucky really respected Cookie and will miss her a lot. And of course Cookie's people are really going to miss her. It was a tough week for Lucky and for Cookie's people, but it is nice to know that they had lots of good times together.

So love your dogs everyone. We won't be around forever.

The happier news happened this weekend (just today actually) when a good friend of Cookie and her family came to visit us. Auntie Christine stopped by for a short visit today. It was such a nice day that we all sat out on the front porch and enjoyed the weather. But then Auntie Christine had to get her drink on and had to get her gambling on, so my people took her to the casino where she promptly donated G & D's education fund to the Quebec government and chased that down with the House red.

My New Buddy

I finally met Stanley, the dog next door. Turns out all my barking was really for nothing. He's actually quite friendly and means me no harm. And he clearly recognized that I was in charge. Probably because I told him so... loudly and repeatedly. When I went over to meet him, he rolled over onto his back. You try barking at a dog when he's rolled over on his back right in front of you.

So maybe, just maybe, Stanley and I can be friends. I'm going to try. And believe me, I know that I'm the problem here. But it looks like we have complementary personalities so things might work out well. His lack of sudden movements goes well with my constant nervousness and jitteriness. I'll keep you posted.

Sofa King

Did anyone see the Sofa King commercial on Saturday Night Live? If not, check it out here. (If your name starts with R and you have a dog named Cleo, you're not allowed to click this. Grandma, you may want to think twice too... But it's funny.) I'm still trying to find a clip of the Penelope skit from a few weeks ago, but NBC hasn't got it on their site. I'll have to remember to have my people PVR it when they Peyton Manning rerun comes on.

Canucklehead

Seems like our pal Jimbo on the west coast has suddenly become a hockey fan again. I'm not sure if there are quite as many broken ankles in Vancouver (from jumping off the Canucks bandwagon) as there are in Ottawa -- OK, there are definitely more broken ankles in Ottawa. But still... Vancouver's chances are totally tied to one player, Roberto Luongo. Now, kudos to Dave Nonis for making the most one-sided trade in recent memory. Florida doesn't even have Todd Bertuzzi around anymore to remind them how bad the trade was.

But where was Jacques Martin's benevolence when it was time to ship off Gary Roberts at the trade deadline? He'll give away Luongo, but won't permit Roberts to be traded to Ottawa? Then gives Roberts to Pittsburgh for Noah Welch? Noah Welch!?

And speaking of Todd Bertuzzi... His new team, the Red Wings, have something in common with both the Vancouver Canucks and the Ottawa Senators (and even the Toronto Maple Leafs). They all have Swedish captains. The good news for Markus Naslund is that Mats Sundin probably has a big screen TV, so they can both watch the second round of the playoffs together and see how far Lidstrom and Alfredsson can take their teams.

Which segues into Daniel Alfredsson... Is he a good hockey player or what? In today's game, he scored 2 goals, including the winner, plus he knocked Roberts on his keester when it was Roberts coming after Alfredsson. Definitely the MVP of the series for Ottawa so far, although Joe Corvo still has been very impressive. Alfredsson's been good all year, but Corvo has really stepped it up in the playoffs.

Now if only they could find a way to stop Sidney Crosby... (By the way... we started a fun game in our house last week. Starting last Wednesday, we thought we'd count the number of times we heard the words "Sidney Crosby" in the media. It turns out that even with all of today's supercomputers, they still haven't invented that number yet.)

Snow Day

It snowed last night. This was NOT what I signed up for. We don't have a fence, so I need to be on my leash whenever I go outside. Plus now we're getting snow in mid-April? How long will this last? I was expecting very good things when I was outside playing on the grass on Christmas Eve. It's enough to give a dog seasonal affective disorder.

At least the days are getting longer and I have more hours of sunbeam in which to bask.

Game 1: Senators 6, Penguins 3

I'm a little torn because my favourite toy is in fact a penguin, but I still will cheer for the Senators. They looked really good for most of the game tonight. Even the guys I was a little worried about like Redden and Corvo played really well. I thought Corvo looked fantastic out there.

I'm not too sure about a couple of calls though... Maybe the refs have swung too far the other way and are cracking down too hard on Sidney Crosby. He got a phantom hooking penalty and supposedly kicked the puck into the net, so his first goal was called back. I guess we should take those calls whenever we can get them though...

In other hockey playoff action... Michael's team (Jumec) lost to Modern in a shootout. So Modern moves on and Jumec finishes out of the medals. Sadly, it also looks like the Isotopes are just a game from elimination too.

Where are you from?

Here's a look at the map of places people have accessed this blog from over the past week. This is much more varied than usual. Normally, it's very much focused in Ottawa, Vancouver, and especially Winnipeg. But this weekend, I guess a lot of people around the world had some extra time to spend trolling the internet for web sites and blogs run by dogs. (Should a blog run by a dog be called a dlog? If so I want credit for inventing that word.)

Also interesting this week is that 36% of visitors were directed here from www.megite.com, but I can't find an explicit link to my blog there. If anyone can locate it, I'd love to see it. It would be encouraging to know that someone out there finds something on here at least a little bit useful. Most users tend to come directly here, or come from the-yees.blogspot.com, or come from another blogspot blog.

What a Weekend

This was a busy weekend. My people had 4 days in a row away from work. Well... one of them had 4 days; one of them only had 3 days. But still... I missed a lot of normal sleeping time. And Friday they were both home ALL DAY! Usually they go out for a little while at least.

On Sunday, we had visitors over for Easter dinner. Darren and Victor came by. They are fun but by the time they leave, I'm super tired. And then Monday, Michael took me for a really long walk... definitely the longest this year so far. I was ready to come home after 10 minutes, but we stayed out a lot longer than that.

I have some pictures to share. Here's Victor:

Here's Darren:

Just kidding... that's not him. This is Darren:

My lovely doggy lumps

If you haven't read about Alanis Morissette's parody of the Black Eyed Peas, here's a news story. If you haven't seen the parody itself, here it is. If you don't know the original song, you probably won't find this funny.

The Yees are moving!

You can fool all the dogs some of the time... You can even fool some of the dogs all the time... But you can't fool all the dogs all the time.

Was it something I said?

Mr. Charles Greene has not responded to me. I'm beginning to think that he has found another partner to help him out. I can't believe I've missed this chance to get rich... and quick!

However... Thanks to my trusty human friend Kristen, another golden opportunity has come my way... I think I'll send my INFOs.
