Merrickville

Supposedly Merrickville was once named Ontario's prettiest or most beautiful town or some such. Google it if you're really interested.

Anyway, it is a neat little town about 45 minutes away and my people went there a couple of weeks ago. There are a lot of little artists' galleries, antique stores, unique little shops, and glass-blowing places (my people skipped those). There was a street fiddler and street barbecue sauce salesmen -- one of whom was blind. My people gave the fiddler some money and bought barbecue sauce too (aptly named Blind Brothers BBQ Sauce). In fact, it was a saucy trip. They also bought a local relish and a garlic jelly.

My people didn't really have a meal in Merrickville, but there are some excellently named places to eat there. Not the least of which is a chip truck called Chip Witch, which looks a little spooky. There is also a clever little coffee shop named Brewed Awakenings. Unfortunately, there's also the Downtowne Ice Cream & Candy Shoppe, which should be fined for using unnecessary letters in its name (two extraneous Es and one P).

My people went to Paws A Bit -- a pet accessories store -- but as usual bought me nothing.

Merrickville also has a set of locks along the Rideau River. And muskrats.

Here are some photos:
